A man who police allege is responsible for the deaths of two people in a fatal collision on the Anzac Bridge on Friday night will remain behind bars over Christmas.
Adeeb Sukkar, 41, beamed into Sydney Downing Centre Court on Monday from police custody after being arrested on Saturday over the fatal collision.
Police believe Anya Pok Yin Lam, 25, and Hongyi Zhang, 38, were standing on the side of the road at 11.45pm on December 2 to exchange details after a minor crash when one of their stationary cars was hit.
Mr Sukkar was allegedly behind the wheel of a silver Holden Commodore when he crashed into one of the parked cars near the exit ramp of the Western Distributor.
The stationary car then hit with the Lidcombe woman and Hurstville man while they stood on the side of the road, and they both died at the scene.
The force of the collision also pushed one of the parked cars into a third lane, where police say it collided with a taxi driven by a 24-year-old man.
Mr Sukkar was treated for his injuries at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and underwent mandatory drug and alcohol testing early on Saturday morning.
Police allege he was driving dangerously at the time of the fatal crash on one of Sydney’s busiest roadways.
The 41-year-old was arrested at his Burwood homeon Saturday and charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
On Monday, Mr Sukkar appeared in court and did not apply for bail.
The court heard he will remain in custody on remand for nearly two months until his next court appearance on February 2.
