Chris Engel, 50, peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family and a close family friend, after bravely facing an unfair battle with cancer. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Melinda, his daughter Rebecca, his son Max, and his loyal canine companion, Marcy.
Chris’s journey in broadcasting began at WRKI I-95 in Connecticut before moving to Massachusetts for the morning show at 107.3 WAAF. Over the years, he graced the airwaves of several radio stations, including 100.7 WZLX, 99.3 WLZX, 101.3 WCPV (VT), and Worcester’s 100.1 WWFX “The Pike.” His infectious personality, wit, and passion for his work endeared him to listeners across New England.
Following his illustrious career in radio, Chris embarked on a new chapter with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. Not only did he graduate at the top of his class, earning the Francis T. Foley Award, but he also found immense fulfillment in his second career. Chris thrived in the Training Department, where he distinguished himself as a Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association firearms and defensive tactics instructor, a hostage negotiator with CEMLEC and the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Cooper Institute law enforcement fitness specialist, American Heart CPR instructor, and Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association first responder instructor.
Chris’s dedication to public service and commitment to excellence were evident in every role he took on. His contributions to law enforcement training and emergency response have left an enduring impact on the community he served.
Away from work, Chris found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid New York Mets fan and took immense delight in watching their games. However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his family, especially grilling in the backyard. The laughter, shared moments, and love that filled their home created a haven of happiness.
