One male suspect died and two EPS officers were killed in the line of duty: The two officers who were shot and killed while performing their duties earlier this morning in a west Edmonton apartment complex are being mourned by the Edmonton Police Service.
On March 16, 2023, at around 12:47 a.m., EPS West Branch patrol members responded to a call about a family dispute in an apartment building close to 114 Avenue and 132 Street.
The young male suspect opened fire on the two patrol officers as they approached the suite after entering the building. All indications at this time point to the fact that they were unable to use their service weapons. When the two team members arrived at the hospital, they were both pronounced dead.
EPS Chief Dale McFee declared, "This is a very tragic day for the Edmonton Police Service and our city. "I'm very sorry to inform you that two of our members passed away earlier this morning in the line of duty. These officers sacrificed their lives in an effort to keep our community safe. We will never forget them.
From everyone in the EPS family, we send our deepest condolences to their families during this heartbreaking time.
West Branch patrol officers Const. Brett Ryan, 30, and Const. Travis Jordan, 35, both with 8.5 years of service, are the two deceased EPS members.
The young male suspect committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. A female complainant from the suite who had suffered serious injuries was also taken to the hospital, where she is still in stable condition.
Since then, the families of the deceased officers and other police officers have requested assistance from the Employee and Family Assistance Section of the Edmonton Police Service.
Information about the funeral and procession will soon be finalized and shared with the neighborhood.

O Divine Force of the Living and the Dead, approve of Travis Jordan , whom we trust has entered this day into your realm. Award harmony, light, and everlasting youth to him who has been taken from us while still a kid. May he always be aware of the tinge of your affection and the gleam of your light in your vast domain. Look delicately upon his family, whose hearts are overburdened with distress. Stroll with them; console them; encompass them with heavenly messengers to lift them from the profundity of their grievous misfortune. At long last, look generously upon our Focal Catholic People group. We stand as a family in our moments of triumph and bliss; give us the mental strength to remain as a family now, despite our lack of Travis Jordan . May we console each other with expressions of confidence, trust, and love. Persuade our hearts that everything works for the good of those who trust in God. So be it.
According to McFee, as soon as they arrived at the apartment building and approached the suite, a man started firing. Police "did not have a chance to shoot their rifles," according to McFee, based on what the investigators have discovered so far. Their EPS coworkers "tried bravely to save their lives en route" as they took the two officers to the hospital. Sadly, the hospital pronounced them both dead. A female was taken urgently to the hospital with potentially fatal injuries.
She is related to the teenage shooting suspect. As of late Thursday morning, her condition had stabilized despite being grave. Near the Baywood Apartments in the Inglewood neighborhood northwest of central Edmonton, between 114 Avenue and 111 Avenue and 132 Street, there were a lot of police officers.
