Tracey Butcher remembers playing in the streets of Paddington as a child in the 1960s.
“It’s changed so much,” she said.
“It’s was a bit more of a slum back then and had a lot of families and single parents with
kids everywhere playing in the streets.”
Mrs Butcher and her family have made the emotional decision to sell their childhood home, which eventually turned into a hoarder house, at 43 Windsor St Paddington.
The Butcher family moved to the home from Cairns in the 1950s.

Mrs Butcher’s father Donald Butcher bought the home from his brother with his daughters Tracey and Dianne growing up there.
“There were three generations, our grandmother lived with us too,” Mrs Butcher said.
When his daughters moved out of home and his mum died, Mr Butcher became a hoarder.
“He filled the house floor to ceiling,” Mrs Butcher said.
“It was just one of those things, he grew up in the depression and held onto everything.”
Mr Butcher eventually moved in with his daughter and died in late 2019 with the family spending the last four years clearing the house.
“I would have loved to have held onto the place and done it up,” Mrs Butcher said.
“It’s needs a lot of work, it’s uninhabitable at the moment. It’s definitely an emotional decision to sell after living there forever.”
She said while the clean up was a challenge, her dad always bought good quality items.
“We put a lot of stuff in storage from art deco mirrors, beautiful furniture,” she said.
“Dad played tennis and there was about 1000 racquets so we have sold a fair few off. He also collected paintings and had boxes of books floor to ceiling.
“It’s been such an overwhelming job. Hopefully whoever buys it turns it into a family home again.”
Agent John Cannizzaro, from Montano Real Estate, said it was a rare sale in the “one of the best streets and pockets of Paddington”.

Mr Cannizzaro described the four bedroom house as “unlivable” and said it would need a lot of work before someone could move in.
Images of the property show the walls and flooring in desperate need of repair with the exterior of the house also deteriorating.
“It just depends on the type of buyer and what their plans are,” Mr Cannizzaro said.
“It’s a deep block. It will be going up for sale by way of auction with a buyers guide of $3.4m.”
The listing describes the house, at the end of a cul-de-sac, as “blank canvas” idea for a bones project or dream home creation.
It has a formal living/dining, fireplaces, high ceilings, balcony off the master bedroom and retains period features.
A two bedroom house at 136 Windsor Street Paddington sold earlier this months for $4m.
According to PropTrack the median house price in Paddington is $2.82m, down 14.5 per cent over the past 12 months.
